All the latest from Gilkes
Internationally Gilkes is installing one of the biggest projects in the company's 160-year history. The Pungwe B hydro project in the Honde Valley, Zimbabwe, Africa, close to the Mozambique border is under construction with the target commissioning date being January 2015, which is 20 months after the ground breaking. It is a 15MW project for Nyangani Renewable Energy and incorporates a full mechanical and electrical package which will include four 28" Gilkes Turgo Impulse turbines. The scheme will have a low impact on the environment, as there is no water storage through the building of dams. It connects directly with the grid with the sole buyer of the electricity being the grid operator. This large scale installation for Gilkes follows on from the successful Pungwe A project again located in the Honde Valley at the confluence of the Nyamombe and Pungwe rivers.
