Built on precision and performance

Gilkes has been supplying lubricating oil pumps for steam and gas turbines since the 1960s playing a vital role in ensuring the continuous and reliable operation of large rotating machinery.

Today, we provide dedicated aftermarket pump support for these systems, supplying genuine spare parts, like-for-like OEM pump replacements, and full pump refurbishment services to customers around the world.

Our focus is on maintaining the original performance of existing installations, using factory-original parts built to the same specifications as when they first left our facility.

Whether replacing a worn impeller, sourcing a complete spare pump, or returning a unit for full overhaul, Gilkes provides the expertise, equipment and support needed to keep your systems running efficiently.

Steam turbine lubricating oil pumps

Our involvement in steam turbine lubrication systems began in the early 1960s, when Gilkes was asked to develop a solution to support the suction of main oil pumps (MOPs) on turbines rated above 120MW. This led to the development of the Booster Pump Turbine (BPT), designed to improve oil flow during start-up and low rotational speeds.

From 1963, we expanded our scope to include the MOPs themselves, as well as AC and DC motor-driven flushing pumps.

Gas turbine lubricating oil pumps

Gilkes has a long-standing history in gas turbine support, beginning in 1970 with the supply of fuel forwarding pumps. This was followed by the development of complete AC and DC vertical shaft lubricating oil pumps for gas turbine platforms and the supply of purifying lubricating oil, demineralised water, and compressor washing modules, as well as GE Frame 7 Gas Turbines.

Today, Gilkes supports hundreds of gas power installations across multiple countries. While some gas turbine systems use more standardised components, we offer a clear advantage in specification accuracy, product continuity, and long-term support.

Engineering support

Gilkes provides dependable pump solutions supported by technical insight and global delivery. Our offering is designed to meet the specific requirements of each installation while maintaining long-term system reliability.

Our support includes:
  • Main lubricating oil pumps for direct engine integration
  • Auxiliary and standby pump options
  • Configurations that match the original system footprint, flow, and pressure
  • Global delivery and responsive technical advice

Steam and gas turbine pump systems are often designed to suit specific site requirements. Gilkes holds the original engineering records for these installations, enabling us to provide parts and replacements that match the exact design and build standard.

Unlike suppliers who rely on reverse engineering, Gilkes works from original manufacturing drawings. This ensures:
  • Correct tolerances and material specifications
  • Consistent performance without deviation from the original design
  • Compliance with system certification and operational requirements

Many customers find us through valve supply partners or wider plant maintenance contractors. Increasingly, end users approach us directly, knowing they will receive components that match the factory original specification and are built for reliability.

As the original manufacturer, we continue to support legacy systems with:
  • Complete pump replacements to original specification from Gilkes’ original drawings
  • Genuine spare parts for wear components and sub-assemblies
  • Full pump refurbishment at our UK headquarters
  • Strategic spare kits to support scheduled maintenance and reduce downtime

Pump refurbishment and strategic spares

Refurbishment services are carried out at our Kendal headquarters. Pumps are dismantled and undergo dimensional inspection and detailed reports. Components, including impellers, wear rings, and seals, are evaluated and replaced where required, returning the pump to its original performance.

We also supply tailored strategic spare kits containing high-use components most likely to require replacement. These kits support planned maintenance, reduce the risk of downtime and improve site readiness in the event of a fault.
