Gilkes latest project commissioned ahead of schedule
16th May 2016
Located in Northwest Colorado on the West Slope of the Continental Divide, Lake Granby is Gilkes' most recently commissioned project. An integral part of Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District's Colorado-Big Thompson Project, Lake Granby is in a position to provide the District with revenue recovery for decades to come.
The fully automated plant consists of two, Gilkes 450mm G150 Francis turbines coupled to synchronous generators, each with an output of approximately 650kW. It was important to have two same-size Francis turbines to recover as much energy as possible and to accommodate the changing flow releases NCWCD is required to supply to the Colorado River. Thanks to the efforts of all involved, the project was delivered approximately 2 months ahead of schedule, allowing for the energy recovery of the major flow releases for 2016.
This is the second project Gilkes has delivered to NCWCD following on from the very successful 2012 Carter Lake project.
