Gayle Mill case study
In over 220 years Gayle Mill’s history has seen the mill fulfil numerous functions. Initially the mill was used as a cotton spinning mill, although, this was only for the first 20 years. It was subsequently used for the next 70 or 80 years to spin wool for the local hand-knitting industry. In the midst of this, it has been at the centre of the use of power produced from water using generations of Gilkes turbines.
